1st World Deaf Ice Hockey and Curling Championships
The World Deaf Ice Hockey and Curling Championships is expecting 250 athletes from Canada, Great Britain, Russia, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, Slovakia, Hungary and the United States and more than 800 fans and participants.
Winnipeg is very proud to be hosting this prestigious world sporting event for Deaf athletes from around the world scheduled for April 10 to 18, 2009. The Deaf athletes participating in this world sporting event will gain an opportunity to enjoy the same experiences as their hearing counterparts. This event is especially important because it is the only sporting competition that uses sign language as the primary mode of communication.
