Donating money and/or time to charity is one of the noblest things a person can do. If you are looking for an organization to give to, it is important that you are selective. Here are some things to look out for when you are trying to make a choice.

You should only give to charities that are proven to be legitimate. A simple Internet search can uncover any issues that people have had with the charity in question. For instance, if the director of a charity has been accused of fraud in the past, you should easily find information about this on the Web.

There are some people who will randomly pretend to be a part of legitimate charities, even though they actually have no association with them at all. This is another common occurrence that you have to be wary of when you are donating. If someone approaches you and claims to be from a charity, ask them for a way to reach them at work and verify whether this is a legitimate number. Never hand over any money to them directly.

Always write out checks directly to the organization in question. You can look on their website and determine the exact name that should be written on the payable line. It is never a good idea to write a check to an individual’s name. Anyone who insists that you do so is probably trying to take advantage of you.

If you have decided to give to a charity in the Denver area. it is important that you take the time to digest all of the information that was offered to you here. It will help reduce the chances you will be come the victim of a scam while trying to help.
