GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted the first-ever Calvin D3Week Dodgeball Tournament on Wednesday night in Van Noord Arena.
"Tonight was an amazing night," said SAAC President Emma Hall," It was great to see all of the teams come together for such a great cause. It was a blast to be able to get together and play a game for charity. I am really proud of what we all accomplished this evening and this is one of the many things that makes Calvin an amazing place."
Each brother and sister team played for a charity of their choice on Wednesday evening. Teams were also able to make donations to their charities.
All nine brother and sister teams competed in the tournament.
In the semifinal round, the men’s soccer and volleyball teams defeated the women’s track & field and baseball team. The other semifinal saw the softball and men’s lacrosse team defeat the women’s lacrosse and ice hockey team.
In the finals, the softball and men’s lacrosse teams were victorious and donated $500 to Mel Trotter Ministries.
"It was a really honor to raise money tonight," said junior pitcher Anna Gernant. "It was a fun and competitive event for some competitive athletes, but overall the goal was to raise funds for some great causes."
The dodgeball tournament was one of many activities hosted by Calvin SAAC during D3 Week.
